LL Cool J giving back to Queens!

Hello Sweetea,

Yesterday, both State Senate Democratic Leader Malcolm Smith and Hip Hop artist, author and actor LL Cool J (James Todd Smith) has returned to the Sixth Annual Jump & Ball Basketball and Double-Dutch Tournament at Daniel O’Connell Park on 196th street and Murdock Avenue in St. Albans. The tourneys, sponsored by local companies, is designed to foster community cohesiveness and will offer a place for St. Albans youth to showcase and cultivate their athletic talent.

I drove by and saw it was so much people out there that I remained in my car and kept going to Delt’Nic Picnic in Brooklyn. However, giving back in service is always free and rewarding!!! It’s always nice to see those that has made it out of their community to come back and serve in a big way! LL Cool J knows what it means to come back home and shoot some hoops!! Senator Smith, the temporary President of the New York State Senate and the first African-American to hold that position expresses how he is “So pleased to see that LL Cool J is still giving back to his community and I would like to commend LL Cool J for his dedication to the Queens community!” I totally feel the same way and was sadden I was able to see the sexy LL Cool J too!! But all that matters is this free event is still available to the Queens community.

If you live in the Queens area and need something to do with your child.. This is the place to be. The basketball tournament consists of two divisions, with 80 youths per division, playing in a “Win or Go Home” elimination format. The Double-Dutch competition, which is primarily female, will consist of eight teams showcasing their creativity, skill and talent.

The tournaments will be held every Saturday and Sunday through August 29. Tournament games are scheduled to be played Aug. 13 and 14, with playoff games scheduled for Aug. 20. 21, 27, 28 and Sept. 3, and the championship games and trophy awards ceremony scheduled for Sept. 4.

The competitions are open to youth ages 18 and under. Refreshments and giveaways will be available throughout the tournaments. To sign up for the free tournament, contact Shaun (Blacker) Bell at (718) 772-8302. For more information on the free event, contact Smith’s office at (718) 528-4290.

Sashaying Off,
